Austin Collie is back on an NFL team, and he has landed with one that can use a lot of help at wide receiver. Collie signed with the 49ers on Friday. The former Colt has played in just one game since 2011 because of concussion issues and a 2012 ruptured patella tendon, After working him out a couple of times, the 49ers hope Collie can upgrade a receiving corps that will be without go-to wideout Michael Crabtree for most of the season and has seen A.J. Jenkins and Quinton Patton miss practice time lately because of their own injuries.
Fantasy Analysis:
There isn't much initial fantasy value here as Collie isn't a lock to make the team. And you have to wonder what a serious knee injury and multiple concussions have subtracted from his natural ability. But if Collie stays healthy this month and performs well, he could start the year the Niners' No. 2 WR, in which case he would be a really nice and cheap option in all leagues. Another concussion, however, would probably mean the end of his career.
