GRANADA HILLS (CBSLA.com) — Arson investigators Friday were at a house in North Hills where a fire killed a man and his dog.

The fire was reported just after 9 p.m. Thursday, according to Erik Scott, spokesperson for the LAFD.

When crews arrived at the single-story house, in the 16000 block of Plummer Street, the structure was completely engulfed in flames.

Officials reported a $300,000 loss to home and property.

A motor home and trailer in the backyard was also damaged by flames and heat, according to Scott.

Firefighters also had to contend with some downed live power lines that could be seen arcing in the rear of the structure. DWP was requested to assist.

After the fire was extinguished, in less than 25 minutes, Scott said the body of an adult male was found badly burned in the dining room.

The victim was declared dead at the scene.

A pet dog was found deceased in a bedroom.

No other injuries were reported.

Officials said the man’s home had pack-rat conditions.

Investigators are looking into whether the fire was an act of arson. blog comments powered by Disqus
