Tiger Woods has pulled out of a charity event scheduled for Wednesday due to the back injury that plagued him at The Barclays.

The world No 1 struggled with the problem during the first event of the FedExCup play-offs, and he suffered painful back spasms over the last seven holes of the final round.

Woods, who blamed the ailment on a soft hotel bed, still managed to finish in a tie for second just one stroke behind winner Adam Scott.

He was hoping to support his good friend Notah Begay in his Foundation Challenge event at the Turning Stone Resort, but he will now be replaced by Gary Woodland.

"While we're disappointed Tiger is unable to play in this year's event, the important thing for Tiger is to make sure he's 100 percent healthy and not risk further injuring himself," said Begay, who was Woods' team-mate at Stanford University.

Woods is hopeful he will be fully fit to tee up in the second of four play-off events at the Deutsche Bank Championship in Boston, which starts on Friday.

He has been grouped with Masters champion Adam Scott and Open winner Phil Mickelson in a high-profile three-ball for the first two rounds.
