Matt Kuchar: Share of the lead heading into final round Matt Kuchar: Share of the lead heading into final round

American duo Matt Kuchar and Gary Woodland share the lead after third round of The Barclays at Liberty National GC in New Jersey.

Kuchar played a total of 23 holes on Saturday as he was forced to return early in the morning to finish off his second round before heading back out to complete his third.

Looking for his third PGA Tour win of the season, the 35-year-old had opened a two-shot lead at the halfway point of the tournament as he eventually signed for a 65 to post an 11-under-par 36-hole total of 131.

Kuchar then followed that with a third round of 70 to reach 12-under, responding well after a couple of bogeys on the front nine had seen him surrender the lead.

That stumble allowed Woodland to catch and then move past him on the back of a run of four consecutive birdies at the end of his front nine.

At that point Woodland stood at 13-under, but he found the going tougher on the back nine and a combination of three bogeys and two birdies meant he closed with a 68 to finish alongside Kuchar.

The biggest move of the day was made by Kevin Chappell who fired a spectacular nine-under-par 62 to catapult himself into contention.

His flawless round, which contained nine birdies, saw him eclipse the previous course record (63) set just one day earlier by Keegan Bradley.

Chappell did most of his work on the front nine with birdies at one, three, four, five, six and eight before picking up further shots at 10, 16 and 17 to leave himself just one off the pace at 11-under.

Having also had to return to complete his second round earlier in the day, World No 1 Tiger Woods ground out a 69 to claim a share of fourth place at eight-under where he is tied with England's David Lynn (69).

No fewer than seven players are then bunched together in a group at seven-under including US Open champion Justin Rose, as well as Bubba Watson, Rickie Fowler and Jim Furyk.

Rory McIlroy finds himself six shots back after a level-par 71 along with the likes of Adam Scott, Sergio Garcia, Webb Simpson and defending champion Nick Watney.
