STARKE, Fla. (AP) - A mass murderer from Miami-Dade County is scheduled to die by lethal injection at Florida State Prison. John Errol Ferguson is set for execution at 6 o'clock tonight. The 65-year-old was convicted of killing eight people in South Florida in two separate incidents.
COCOA BEACH, Fla. (AP) - A 15-year-old is being treated for a head injury after a funnel cloud touched down on Cocoa Beach. A fire department spokesman says the funnel whirled down onto the sand yesterday afternoon, spinning about 15 seconds before it moved onto the ocean.
ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) - A 29-year-old woman has died after being struck by a tractor-trailer as she walked along Florida's Turnpike near Orlando. The Florida Highway Patrol says the woman was hit early today near State Road 528.
CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) - The commission working to preserve the culture of slave descendants on the sea islands of the Southeast is looking for its first executive director. The Gullah Geechee Cultural Heritage Corridor Commission is working with a consulting firm to fill the position. A management plan for the corridor including coastal areas in the Carolinas, Georgia and Florida was approved this year.
