MIAMI (AP) - Yasiel Puig is out of the Los Angeles Dodgers' starting lineup against the Miami Marlins, and manager Don Mattingly says the 1-day move was made because of the rookie's slump.
Puig was late arriving at the ballpark for Monday's game, but Mattingly said the decision to sit him had already been made.
The young outfielder was hitless in his past 11 at-bats and 6 for 35 (.171) over his past nine games, dropping his average to .351.
The Dodgers had scored two runs in each of the past two games, both defeats, giving the NL West leaders their first 2-game losing streak in two months.
Puig received a standard fine for his late arrival, Mattingly said, and was summoned for a closed-door meeting with the manager.
