By Herald-Leader Staff Report Rick Cochran III will take a four-shot lead into Thursday's final round of the 94th Kentucky golf championship at The Club at Olde Stone in Bowling Green.
Cochran, a pro from Paducah and nephew of Senior PGA player Russ Cochran, shot a 6-under 66 (eight birdies and a double bogey) on Wednesday to follow up a 68.
Cochran's 10-under total is four ahead of first-round leader Jared Wolfe (67-71), who double-bogeyed the last hole on Wednesday.
Cochran, 26, played college golf at Middle Tennessee. He won the 2005 State Amateur title, and the 2012 Cherry Blossom Classic in Georgetown.
Justin Perry (71-68), son of Senior PGA player Kenny Perry, is five shots off the pace.
A trio of players with Central Kentucky connections are tied for fourth place: West Jessamine senior and future UK golfer Fred Allen Meyer (71-69); former Scott County standout and current Central Florida player Kyle Wilshire (69-71), and former UK golfer Grover Justice (71-69).
Defending champ Keith Ohr (70-71) has a lot of ground to make up.
Olde Stone is playing easier than when Matt Savage won here in 2009. He shot 5-under 211 and was the only player to match or break par.
Going into Thursday, 18 players are at par or better. Savage isn't one of them. He missed the cut at 19-over par.
